The cookies turned out even better than I remembered. I told Clara this, but I donât think she believes me. Sheâs got so many hidden talents. She claims itâs from a lifetime of picking up hobbies, focusing on them until sheâs had her fill, then dropping them for the next best thing. Baking is just one of those things for her.
I canât wait to see each and every one of them. And watch her discover more hobbies too.
âDo you knit?â I ask. I quickly realise, based on Claraâs obvious confusion, that weâve sat for nearly an hour in perfect silence on my bed. We hadnât been talking outloud about Claraâs magnificent brain, I was just thinking about her still.
âNope,â she says, shrugging. âWhy? Did you want a blanket? A sweater?â
I chuckle, brushing my hand over her hip. âMaybe⦠Could be a cosy new hobby.â
âOh, I see! Youâre trying to use my neurodiversity to your advantage.â She teases, forcing her laugh to subside as she speaks.
âSomething like that.â I smile, tilting her to look back up at me from where sheâs splayed across my chest. God, sheâs beautiful. âCan I kiss you?â
Her lips twitch into a smirk. âNo matter how much we make out, I will not learn to knit. So donât try it.â
âNo, Iâve just been waiting for you to initiate and I canât anymore.â
Clara bites her lip while shuffling up the bed to lay next to me. âIâd been waiting for you to start us off.â
âWeâre so polite,â I whisper against her lips.
âVery conscientious.â She brushes her tongue over my mouth as I find her hair with my hands, tugging her closer.
We kiss forever. Not literally, obviously, weâd die. But for a very long time. And it doesnât feel overwhelming. Even when my jaw starts to hurt, itâs easy to ignore.
âEv?â Clara whispers.
âYes?â
âCan Iâ¦â Her forehead presses into mine and she giggles softly. âCan I, please, touch you?â
I swallow a lump in my throat. âYeah.â
âYouâll have to be patient with me⦠Iâm new.â She kisses my neck and if thatâs any indication of how this is going to work between us, I think sheâll do just fine.
âThatâs okay.â
Itâs a bit awkward, but mostly endearing, as Clara helps me out of my tights and underwear. She kisses my ankle and I buck in response.
âSorry. Just⦠not too gentle. Gentle touches feel a bit like an itch I canât scratch.â
She nods, tightening her grip around my opposite knee. She looks across my body then climbs back next to me, falling with a bounce. âCan we kiss until my confidence comes back?â
I nod, meeting her mouth with mine. This, weâre both really good at.
Minutes later sheâs bunching the fabric of my dress at my hip, gathering it into her palm between panted, shared breaths. I feel my hips twisting towards her, seeking out her hand. Once sheâs got my dress hiked up, she places her spread palm on the top of my thigh, then squeezes.
âGod, I love these.â
âMy legs?â I almost laugh at the sound of wonder in her voice.
